Everything made it worse
Carolina grew up in Colombia before coming to the United States, and she has said skincare became a source of comfort during hard times. Her own skin made it complicated. In her words on bejou.co: “For years, I tried everything. Retinol. Peels. Spot treatments. But for sensitive skin, aggressive solutions made things worse.”
So she stopped looking for something stronger and started building something gentler. “So I created BEJOU — a different approach designed to protect skin first. Because I needed something my skin could actually tolerate.”

Meet Chontaduro
BEJOU's hero ingredient comes from home. Chontaduro is a Colombian tropical superfruit that thrives in the tropical lowlands, and to Indigenous communities there it is a symbol of vitality and health. It's rich in beta-carotene, vitamin E and essential fatty acids.
On skin, BEJOU says Chontaduro delivers retinol-like benefits (smoother texture, faster cell turnover and fewer dark spots) without the irritation synthetic retinol can cause. The brand calls it 5x gentler than retinol.
Chontaduro works alongside other Latin American botanicals: Camu Camu, an Amazonian fruit packed with vitamin C that helps brighten and even tone, and açaí, cherished for its antioxidants. BEJOU pairs that plant wisdom with modern bioengineering, and every product is dermatologist-tested, vegan and cruelty-free.
